Patient Satisfaction
UPMC prides itself on providing quality care to patients. All UPMC hospitals are accredited by the Joint Commission (formerly called Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, or JCAHO). If the patient believes his or her concerns about care or safety have not been addressed by the hospital, the patient also may contact the Joint Commission’s Office of Quality Monitoring by phone at 1-800-994-6610 or by e-mail at complaint@jointcommission.org.
Parking
There is no charge for parking at UPMC Bedford Memorial.
Visitors to the hospital may park in the area in the front of the
hospital along Route 30. Parking areas on the east side of the hospital
near the Emergency Department are reserved for patients using outpatient
services.

to provide our patients with the most therapeutic environment

Smoking
UPMC
Bedford Memorial Hospital is a smoke-free facility. Smoking is prohibited.
Mail
Your
cards and letters are delivered to your room. Friends and relatives
should address mail to you in the following manner:

If you receive mail after you have been discharged, it will be forwarded
to you at your home.
Outgoing mail
should be given to your nurse or dropped off at the nursing station.
Stamps are available at the front desk.
Valuables
UPMC
Bedford Memorial is not responsible for your valuables unless we
take possession of any items during your stay. You will be given
a receipt for items that you wish to be kept. You are encouraged
to send any unnecessary valuables (cash, jewelry, watches, etc.)
home with a family member.
Pastoral
Care
Lay chaplains of the Catholic and Protestant faiths are
available at the hospital if you would like to arrange for a visit
or inquire about religious services. You may also arrange to have
your own clergy visit you if you prefer. As part of your admission
process, your nurse will ask you if you would like to request visitation.
You may request Pastoral Care at any time during your stay.
A non-denominational
chapel is located on the first floor of UPMC Bedford Memorial past
the front desk at the end of the hall on the left.
Social Work
Social
work services are available 24 hours a day to help you or your family
with your emotional, social, or discharge planning needs. Case managers
are assigned to patient cases upon admission and work with physicians,
nurses, and ancillary staff to ensure that patients’ needs
are met during their stay. Your case manager may visit you periodically
to help you arrange continuing care needed after your discharge.

please ask your nurse.
